Project Background:
Pakistan Reading Project (PRP) is five years USAID funded project starting June 2013 with the objective to support the provincial and regional departments of education (DoE) throughout Pakistan to improve reading skills of at least 1.3 million children in grade one and two. The goal will be supported by three interrelated components including improved classroom learning environment for reading, improve policies and systems for reading and community based support for reading in Pakistan. The anticipated results include 23,800 teachers in 23,800 public schools with improved skills in teaching reading, 3,649 scholarships for ADE and B.Ed (Hons) students, mobile bus libraries reaching out to 300 communities.
Scope of work
Continuous Professional Development of teachers through Face to Face Trainings and Teacher Inquiry Group are the key aspects of Pakistan Reading Project. Currently TIG Modules and Training Manuals for Cohort 3 are being developed. A designer will be required to support professional development team for designing and formatting of these newly developed TIG Modules and training manuals. The main responsibility of the graphic designer would be to provide support to the professional development team and manual writers in designing and formatting of these. Along with designing, he/she will correct typo errors in the modules and redesign material if required. The total number of pages will be approx 1000 for designing.
Deliverables
- Designing and formatting of Training Manuals and designing and fine tuning of TIG Modules using In-design
- Designing Title pages for each Manual/Module
- Revision of Designing, formatting and typo errors (3 reviews and edits minimum).
- Incorporate feedback provided by professional development team and Manual/Module writers
- Provide error free Training Manuals/TIG Modules (ready for print version)
Timeline
§ Starting from Aug 15, 2017 and ending by February 15, 2018
§ Draft Designing and formatting: Oct 15, 2017
- Complete Designing and formatting: Nov 30, 2017
- Print Version (after incorporating all feedback): Dec 31, 2017
- Correction in dummy: Jan 25, 2018
- Note: The designer would be required to be in office minimum two days a week as required by the team
Payment Schedule
- Payment shall be made in 4 installments as per the aforementioned timelines.
Major Requirements:
Education:
§ Minimum qualification: Graduation (Candidate with higher qualification will be preferred)
§ Diploma/certification in graphic designing
Knowledge:
Has a deep understanding and knowledge about;
1. Graphic designing software - In-Design, adobe illustrator/primer, Photoshop, etc.
2. Good typing speed in Urdu/English
3. Use of computer, internet and MS Office package
4. Understanding of graphic designing in MS Word- Urdu/English
5. An evidence or proof of previous work with verifiable references is required.
EXPERIENCE:
· Graphic Designer must have at least 5 year of experience of working on graphic designing with a renowned organization/ newspaper/magazine/educational materials.
o Note: Experience with USAID projects preferred.
SKILLS:
1. Good command on reading and writing in Urdu/English desirable.
2. Excellent skills in using graphic designing software.
3. Good aesthetic/artistic taste in designing.
4. Ability to work under extreme pressure and meeting deadlines.
Major Equipment Requirements:
Graphic Designer must have his/her own laptop with Urdu font (Alvi Nastaleeq), Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator (Adobe Creative Cloud) for designing of TIG Modules Urdu.
